Review: Confessions of an Economic Hitman

The few books I read cover to cover. Confessions of an Economic Hitman is riveting but also depressing because it will open your eyes to the realities of modern empires like the US. While we are already aware of some of the stories mentioned in this book, John Perkins gives it a human face, forcing us to rethink our roles in this world. If you want to know why the US attacked Iraq or Panama, this book will provide you insights on why such wars happen. I take my hat off. This book needs to be read and re-read to generations of young people.

Perkins is part of an army of economic hitmen (EHM) sent by large corporations with backing from government to push US policies and eventually get lucrative deals on various infrastructure contracts to American businesses.

You’ll find mix reviews about this book. But it is a book too hard to ignore.

A few days before…

It’s that time of the year again. Another year to count in this life. Another year of contemplation. Another year of “what ifs” and “why didn’t I think of that.” Growing old is not that bad. You will find more white hairs in your head. You’ll find younger colleagues saying “po” to you more than you expect. Another year of new friends. Another year of mundane stories you’ve probably forgotten. Another year of questions and finding answers. Another year before you actually feel you no longer can’t relate to the music kids are listening today. Another year when you will see your kids growing up. Another year of challenges. Another year of lessons learned. Another year…a few days before, another year.
