This is due to the ongoing repairs (or even replacement) of major underwater fiber optic cables that were damaged after this week’s Taiwan quake.

Yes this explains the “intermittent” or slowing down of Internet services since this morning. Apparently, the 7.1 earthquake that hit Taiwan damaged major submarine fiber optic cables connecting the Philippines to the international networks.

It appears that our jobless architects/engineers might find work coming to them in the near future. As this story says, more and more architectural designs are outsourced to other countries like the Philippines.

Business process outsourcing operator TeleTech Holdings has appointed Maulik Parekh as its new vice president and general manager for the Philippines.
Parekh will be replacing Craig Reines, who himself has been appointed as the company’s general manager for developing markets.
